SEMH Counts

SEMH Counts is a course which has been written by Elklan and is delivered by the Lead Communication Practitioners to the rest of the staff in your setting. The course is made up of the key information and strategies from Supporting Social, Emotional and Mental Health of Children and Young People or Supporting Vulnerable 8-25s with SEMH and SLC Needs and delivered in 5x one-hour bite-sized sessions.

Each session has been tailored to be simple to deliver for the LCPs and easy to implement by the staff. Elklan provides all the resources for the cascade of SEMH Counts and the LCPs are supported by an experienced Elklan Tutor throughout this process.

The sessions cover:

1
What is SEMH?
2
Creating an SEMH Aware Environment
3
Making sense of SEMH
4
Language and Vocabulary to support SEMH - Part 1: Using questions and non-literal language
5
Language and Vocabulary to support SEMH - Part 2: Emotion vocabulary and narrative, and Linking it all together

Challenge Questionnaires

After each SEMH Counts session, the staff complete a brief questionnaire on how effective the cascaded knowledge and strategies have been when used with the children/young people that they work with.

This helps to embed the knowledge that is being shared and create a consistent approach to supporting the communication and wellbeing of the children/young people in your setting. The data from the questionnaires is summarised in concise reports giving a measure of the impact of the SEMH Aware programme on your setting.

Completion & Accreditation

Once the SEMH Counts course has been delivered, and the Challenge Questionnaires completed the final Audit and Confirmation Visit will take place to assess the changes that have taken place in your setting. Upon successful completion of the Confirmation Visit the LCPs will receive Level 4 qualifications and your entire setting is awarded with a whole setting accreditation and receives 'SEMH Aware' status.

SEMH Aware status lasts for 3 years before it needs to be renewed.
