About the Author
Fiona Sugden-Best qualified as a speech and language therapist from City University in 1988, where she returned to do her MSc in Communication Disorders in 1993. Initially, she worked in a general position for Newham Health Authority, before working at The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability for seven-and-half years, managing predominately a progressive neurological client group and providing cover on the rehabilitation wards, including minimally responsive. She has also worked as Senior Speech & Language Therapist for Neurosciences at The Royal London & Barts NHS Trust, as adult team co-ordinator for Redbridge Healthcare, covering a domiciliary caseload and as Head of Speech and Language Therapy at The Children’s Trust. She is currently Head of SLT and Dietetics for Surrey and Sussex Health Care NHS Trust, she clinically covers a group of residential nursing and adults with learning disability homes for an independent provider, together with providing a private therapeutic service to clients with both voice and acquired disorders. She has always been actively involved in educating others, including speech and language therapists.
